Becoming a Dentist
To become a dentist in the UK you will complete your bachelor of dental surgery at university with a five year degree. Once completed the degree the dentist may choose to follow the hospital route for further training in a chosen subject or the dentist may join a general dental practice to do general practitioner training. Theses options are usually under the NHS or rarely the dentist may go into private practice.
Usually after a few years of experience in general dental practice the dentist will attend specialised courses for the speciality he or she may want to pursue. There are many different specialisations that take years of training to achieve.

Cosmetic dentist have specialized training in cosmetic dentistry. Although there is no GDC specialization in cosmetic dentistry there are many courses that a dentist can attend and complete to further their knowledge in cosmetic dentistry.
Cosmetic dentistry courses include porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, dental implants and dental bridges. Also clear braces are a popular cosmetic dentistry course.
Good cosmetic dentist are able to show what they attend and have attended. Facial aesthetics courses are also popular with cosmetic dentist as many of them offer Botox or filler treatment in addition to cosmetic dentistry.
The better cosmetic dentists are not only well trained but also have a wealth of experience and should be able to demonstrate a large portfolio of cases. All these factors as well as good customer service is important.
